Why was it important to create a separate company for Lusail City? Is it an independent firm?
“The Lusail Real Estate Development Company (LREDC) was established to give the development of Lusail City the attention it deserves, especially seeing the rapid international growth of QATARI DIAR (QD). The company has an administration independent from QD, which is 100 percent owned by the parent company QD, yet the LREDC’s staff is completely separate from QD staff.”
Does the LREDC employee feel himself a QATARI DIAR employee?
“There is both integration and separation between the employees. The Lusail City employees only work on the Lusail City project. They don’t have any other responsibilities. Yet when we need any technical support from QD, we get it.”
Lusail City is composed of many cities. Where do you currently stand in terms of the cities infrastructure?
“Lusail City is indeed a group of cities within one city. We’ve started the first phase of constructing the infrastructure in the Marina District, while in Fox Hills we have reached the second phase. The other parts of Lusail City will be done gradually, yet we’ve already accomplished a lot in the first priority phase. For example, we’ve given many investors early access to start excavations. Some of them have started, while others find themselves in the final design stage. There are a lot of developers who have received DC1 approval and are now in the process of obtaining DC2.”
Are they all well-known developers?
“To us, all investors are important. Qatar Petroleum issued a tender for the first construction phase a while ago. Energy City has already issued a tender for the infrastructure. Entertainment City has issued a tender for both excavations and infrastructure. We work with all investors, individuals or companies, to issue infrastructure bids or to facilitate the work of their contractors to get early access to Lusail City”.
Energy City has become so famous that some people do not know it is part of Lusail City. Where is Energy City today?
“Energy City is part of Lusail City. They’ve started constructing the headquarters and main infrastructure. We are working with the people in charge of building Energy City to ensure that their infrastructure and ours is fully synchronised once the project is finalised.”
What about Entertainment City?
”It’s the same, every city developer has an independent administration, you have to get the details of these projects from the people in charge of them, but we know that they have started with the infrastructure.”
So, most of the infrastructure in the cities are under construction?
“Yes, in Entertainment City, Energy City, the Marina District and Fox Hills District.”
A last word to your employees?
“They work with me as a team. There is no doubt that Lusail City needs an enormous staff, whether as construction workers, engineers or administrators. On my behalf, and that of QD and Lusail administration, I thank everyone involved in developing Lusail City, whether they are contractors, investors, developers or workers.
