New Mortgage Regulations in Qatar

Qatar Central Bank announced new regulations governing the provision of mortgage finance in Qatar, the new rules – offering highly attractive loan-to-value rates and repayment periods – have been designed to further expand Qatar’s already vibrant real estate sector by encouraging investment from Qatari Citizens, Non-Qatari Residents, and Non-Residents alike. Companies can also invest in real estate.

Different levels of borrowing and tenure periods apply, according to whether the property is residential, for commercial purposes, or for investment purposes with repayments reliant on property revenue.

Residential Properties (ready to occupy or under construction for personal residence) :

  • Qatari Citizens loans up to 80% on properties worth up to QAR 6m (and 75% on properties above QAR 6m) over a period of up to 30 years.
  • Non-Qatari Residents loans to 75% on properties worth up to QAR 6m (and 70% on properties above QAR 6m) over a period of up to 25 years.

Ready Commercial and Investment Properties:

  • Qatari Citizens and Businesses loans up to 75% on properties worth up to QAR 10m (and 70% on properties above QAR 10m) over a period of up to 25 years.
  • Non-Qatari Residents and Companies loans 70% on properties worth up to QAR 10m (and 65% on properties above QAR 10m) over a period of up to 25 years.
  • Non-Resident Individuals or Companies loans up to 60% of the property value, over a period of up to 20 years (on properties worth up to QAR 10m) or 15 years (on properties over QAR 10m).

Commercial and Investment Properties (where repayment relies on property revenue):

  • Qatari Citizens and Businesses loans 60% of the property value, over a period of up to 20 years.
  • Non-Qatari Residents and Non-Residents (Individuals and Companies) loans  to 50% of the property value, over a period of up to 15 years.
